Arnold Schwarzenegger worries 'we're raising a generation of wimps'

Arnold Schwarzenegger is not one to hold back on what he really thinks, and has warned the country about “raising a generation of wimps in an interview with on The Howard Stern Show.

The Hollywood star and bodybuilder opened up about how struggle should be “embraced.” Despite his highly successful career, the 76-year-old has had his fair share of struggles. Not too long ago, he went through a ‘terrifying’ heart surgery when his doctor made a huge mistake. He’s now expressing his opinions on the generation of today.

Arnold Schwarzenegger says ‘you have to be able to struggle’

Opening up in an interview with Howard Stern, the Terminator actor voiced his opinions on the “young kids of today,” saying that they “tend to shy away” and “baby themselves” when it comes to struggle.

He warns that without struggle, people won’t be able to get to where they want. “You have to be able to struggle and if you’re not able to, work on that,” he said.

“Work on that so you’re learning how to accept pain, misery, and discomfort. All of the things that you don’t like, because the more you experience the things that you really don’t like, the more you can grow. The tougher you get, and the more you can handle.”

He told today’s generation that instead of shying away they need to be “attracted” to that struggle. “What helped this country? Is it people that slept in? Was it people that were wimping out?” the movie star rhetorically asked.

“No. These were ballsy women and men that went out there at five in the morning and got up and they struggled, and they fought, and they worked their butts off. That’s what made this country great,” he answered, before warning:

“Continue this way. Don’t start creating a generation of wimps and weak people.”

The star opens up about body struggles

As well as telling people to accept their struggles, Schwarzenegger opened up about struggles of his own now he’s getting older.

The 76-year-old said he’s been struggling to come to terms with his body changing from age after being in “such great shape” in his youth.

“I kind of smile because every day I do look in a mirror and I say, ‘Yep, you suck,’” Arnold Schwarzenegger told Howard Stern.

He then said he looks at his body at muscles that used to be “really perky” but are now “just hanging there.”

In his prime, Schwarzenegger won Mr Olympia a highly impressive seven times. He also had a famous rivalry with Sylvester Stallone, as the two constantly competed for the top spot. However, one good thing that has come with age, is the budding friendship between the two, who now “understand each other.”
