Biz was best known for his 1989 single “Just a Friend,” which charted in many countries. “Just a Friend” was ranked number 100 on VH1’s list of the 100 best hip-hop songs of all time in 2008. Markie has been dubbed the “Hip Hop Clown Prince.”
Markie was born in Manhattan, in the Harlem neighborhood. Long Island is where he grew up. Markie began his career in New York City nightclubs before moving on to acquire regional acclaim by playing at schools in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
Markie was hospitalized in April 2020 owing to serious complications from Type 2 diabetes. Markie was said to be in a rehabilitation center in December 2020 as a result of a stroke he experienced after slipping into a diabetic coma.
Rumors about his death began to surface on Twitter on July 1, 2021. “The story of Biz Markie’s demise is not accurate,” his agent told Rolling Stone. “Biz is currently under medical care, surrounded by specialists who are working hard to offer the finest healthcare possible.”
Markie passed away at a hospital in Baltimore on July 16, 2021, at 6:25 o’clock, according to reports. Age-wise, he was 57.
