How gory is The Conference on Netflix? (The Conference parents guide)

A new slasher movie is on Netflix called The Conference. The Swedish horror-comedy film is based on the novel of the same name by author Mats Strandberg and is definitely a movie you’ll want to add to your watchlist if you’re a horror fan.

The film revolves around a group of public sector employees sent on a company retreat to celebrate the development of a new shopping mall. Unfortunately for them, while on this retreat, the group starts getting picked off slowly, one-by-one, by a masked killer with a serious vendetta.

It’s rated TV-MA for gore, violence, smoking, and language. Seeing as The Conference is a slasher, you should anticipate lots of bloodshed and scenes that you probably don’t want your kids seeing. The Conference definitely leans more into the humor than most horror films, but I still wouldn’t advise letting younger viewers watch it.

Some spoilers ahead for The Conference

If you’re really squeamish about gore, you might want to sit this one out, but here’s an overview of the content you’ll see in the movie for those who need more information:

Even though it’s not included in the content warnings for the film on Netflix, there is brief, partial nudity in the film. A man get’s naked a couple of times and you see him from the back for a few seconds. That said, it’s not really sexual in nature and there aren’t any sex scenes or romance in the film. The scenes in question are played for laughs and to demonstrate how smarmy the character in question is.
