Xherdan Shaqiri, is a Swiss professional footballer, who represented his country at the FIFA World Cups of 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022, as well as UEFA Euro 2016 and UEFA Euro 2020.

He currently plays for Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire, and the Switzerland national club. He started his career at his hometown club SV Augst, and at the age of eight years, he was noticed by FC Basel.

He won the Under-15 Nike Cup 2007 while playing for Basel’s junior team. Despite interest from other teams, he chose to stay with Basel, where he played for their reserve team in the Swiss 1. Liga from 2007 to 2009.

Shaqiri signed his first professional deal with Basel, on 2 January 2009, which kept him at St. Jakob-Park until December 2011. He made his Basel club debut as a substitute in Basel’s 2009-2010 season opener against FC St. Gallen at the AFG Arena on July 12, 2009.

On November 9, 2009, he scored his first goal for Basel in a 4-1 home win over Neuchâtel Xamax. Shaqiri won the national Double with Basel at the end of the 2009-10 season, and a year later he won the league title again.
